When searching for the perfect apartment, many of us concentrate on amenities, features and price. While these are all very important items to focus on, often one extremely important factor is overlooked. Location is a HUGE factor in finding your perfect new place. Don’t overlook it.

Why is location important?

The biggest factor in why location is important is saving yourself on the money that you spend on gas. There is no doubt that gas prices can get outrageous at times and while there is a little ebb and flow, they’ll spend a lot more time going up than coming down. Having a place that is somewhat close to your work, school or other commuter destination is an important factor in saving yourself some hits to the bank account.

The average 15-20 mile commuter currently spends between $40-70 in gas per week going to and from work alone. Multiply this by 52 weeks a year and your are well into the $2000-$3000 range. If you live in an apartment within biking or walking distance from school or work, not only do you have the opportunity to help yourself be physically fit from you commute, but you also have the opportunity to save yourself some money. Taking the bus, subway or other city transportation method could also help cut your gas expenses, so looking for an apartment community with stops for these nearby could be an excellent choice for you…and the environment.

Another item to factor in when considering location is where the nearest grocery store or shopping center is. If you are having to drive 20 miles to pick up a 6 pack, you are not doing yourself any justice.

Not just that, but what about all of the other little things? Getting your prescriptions refilled, visiting your bank, getting Mittens to the vet or filling up your tank. All of these things and whatever else you need to do daily, should factor into your decision on location.

On top of that, think about the places that you like to hang out and spend your recreation time. It can be difficult to really let your hair down and relax at your favorite spot downtown if you are dreading a 30 minutes drive out to your apartment in the burbs. Pick a spot that is close to your favorite hangout and relaxing will never seem so easy.

Then you have the where-abouts of your significant others, friends and family. You should always take into account their locations in relation to yours when looking for your new place. You’d hate to get an apartment that is close to work yet is 50 miles from your love who you drive to see several times a week. And if you’re that far…they’ll never come see you either…no matter how much they love you. So make sure and pick a happy medium if love and work aren’t close to one another.

It’s very important to weigh all of these location factors when deciding on the best place for you. If you can find a place that is within a mile from all of these places…YOU ARE SET!!!
